Flash Player 10.1 Final for Android 2.2

Posted: 17 Aug 2010 04:37 AM PDT

adobe-flash-logoAdobe yesterday released the final version of Flash Player 10.1 for Android. Flash Player 10.1 has been in beta since its announcement at the Google I/O in May, but they finally released Flash Player 10.1 yesterday.

Flash Player 10.1 doesn’t show any major improvement in performance since the its beta 3 release, but it sure is a lot more slicker than before.

Currently, Flash Player 10.1 for Android is only supported by the Nexus One and HTC Desire which are running on the latest Froyo (Android 2.2) software update.

But according to Google, more Android devices like the Samsung Galaxy S and Dell Streak would be getting the latest Flash Player 10.1.

Add Skype Friends to Facebook

Posted: 17 Aug 2010 04:10 AM PDT

Facebook ‘s Friend Finder previously allowed you to connect with your IM buddies on Facebook. It still does, but with a new addition.

AOL Instant Messenger, ICQ Chat and Windows Live Messenger were the supported ones, but now Facebook also supports Skype.

You can now find your Skype buddies on Facebook. All you have to do is enter your Skype username and password and Facebook will do rest of the job.

Since it’s a new feature, Facebook is currently promoting it by placing a Friend Finder box on top of your wall. you can use that or alternatively visit the Find Friends page.

Not to forget, Facebook can also find friends from your email address box i.e. Gmail, Windows Live Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail etc.

Motorola Droid 2 Users Facing Signal Problems As well

Posted: 16 Aug 2010 11:43 AM PDT

Finally some support has arrived for Apple and Steve Jobs regarding the Antennagate issue. This support however is of a different type than expected. TechCrunch has reported that users of Motorola's latest flagship smartphone, Droid 2 are facing similar signal reception problems as with iPhone 4. The report also mentions that in their phone testing, Engadget found the signal reception bars to 'fluctuate endlessly' raising the suspicion of a possible problem.

The core problem for Droid 2's signal reception is somewhat different than that of the iPhone 4. The phone does not drop signals when held in a specific way like the iPhone 4. However, users who have reported to face the problem say that the Droid 2 drops signals even when it is idle i.e. not even being held (e.g. lying on a couch etc.). The report describes the problem occurring with the Droid 2 “without holding it wrong".

Droid 2 follows iPhone 4 into the helm of Antennagate problem. What is to be seen now is how Motorola respond to the issue. Will they take it the Apple way and unload all their weight on the industry or adopt a different approach? Only time will tell. Stay tuned!

Boost HTC Desire Battery Life

Posted: 16 Aug 2010 11:23 AM PDT

Frustrated with the poor battery life of your HTC Desire? Well, we all are. Even the Nexus One users are going through the same.

HTC Desire posted a rather ridiculous (but working) trick long back on how you can boost your HTC Desire’s battery life. The same goes for the HTC Evo too. It’s ridiculous, because it involves charging your phone, then turning it off, then again charging and then turning it on and then again charging – Weird, eh?

Here’s the excerpt from an old XDA forums thread:

"To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly: 1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more 2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour 3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well"

I know what you’re thinking, but this seems to actually work for HTC Desire and HTC Evo users!

I wonder if this trick will also work with Nexus One (HTC manufactured) and the HTC Hero too.

Dell Streak to get Froyo Update in US while UK version gets Leaked Android 2.1 Update?

Posted: 16 Aug 2010 10:03 AM PDT

Most of you know that Dell Streak was launched with outdated Android 1.6 OS. And after the launch, everyone speculated that Android 2.1 Eclair update will soon hit the device. Well, there is good news for all Dell Streak owners. A wave of rumors suggests that Android 2.1 Éclair update for O2 UK version of Dell Streak has been released. This might suggest that Dell is already working on the update which can hit Dell Streak users anytime.

If you are one of US Dell Streak owners, you don't have to be disappointed as well. Dell's Lionel Menchaca suggests that the company is working on to bring the update to the operating system and they might skip Android 2.1 Éclair and release Froyo for the Dell Streak US version.

Well, how good can that be? All we have to do is wait and see when we will hear the good news about Dell Streak getting Android 2.2 Froyo update.
