It's iPhone day! Nothing else matters! Or at least, other stuff matters but it'll probably keep until tomorrow. Still there was a lot of news outside of new iPhones, which will be revealed around an hour after you get this. 1. Watch and learn from Apple's iPhone event TechCrunch will be live on the ground, reporting all the news here via live blog. You can also check out Apple's official stream, or just follow along with our event page for all articles as they drop. GM debuts its first mass-market autonomous production car GM and Cruise are going to mass produce a self-driving vehicle. Based on the Chevrolet Bolt platform, it's got all the sensors it needs for full autonomy once the software is ready. And it has fully redundant self-driving systems. These are destined for fleets, not individual consumers, however, so don't ask your deal about lease options. 3. 23andMe confirms $250 million raise DNA testing startup 23andMe has confirmed news originally reported by TechCrunch that it's raised $250 million in a new round led by Sequoia. The company's valuation would sit at around $1.75 billion thanks to this. It's building the genetics information graph, so it's probably worth that and then some. 4. Honda evokes its roots with a futuristic city electric car Everything old is new again. And in the case of this diminutive electric concept by Honda, which is set for production in 2019, that's a very good thing. 5. That's very good news, Nintendo, now don't screw it up. 6. Social Finance's CEO to step down after sexual harassment suit SoFi CEO Michael Cagney will step down at the end of this year, after it came to light that he faced a sexual harassment lawsuit. Cagney says the logic is that he wants to avoid all the negative press attention on the company that's resulted. 7. Samsung says it has 650,000 Note 8 pre-sales already Samsung says its latest phablet is its strongest selling yet, with 650,000 pre-sales already ahead of its September 15 launch, which is more than 2.5 times those received for the Note 7. Nice numbers Samsung, but it's still iPhone day. |
