THE DAILY CRUNCH
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6 2017 By Darrell Etherington

The next James Bond film could be released by... Apple? More thrilling superspy news below in The Daily Crunch for September 6, 2017.

1. Apple and Amazon bidding on James Bond movie rights

Apple and Amazon are in the running for rights to the James Bond film franchise? Sounds weird, but that's what a new report claims, saying they're making very competitive bids alongside studios like Warner Bros.

This could be a watershed moment for streaming content – either Apple or Amazon could do a lot to drive interest in their offerings with a marquee property like James Bond.

2. Apple Watch use case: Cheating at sports

Stealing signs is normal in baseball (so people who watch baseball tell me) but what's not normal is using the Apple Watch to make it possible. This is probably going to have some blowback about use of wrist tech in the dugout.

3. Voyager turns 40

The Voyager program turned 40 yesterday, marking the launch of Voyager 1 in 1977. It's resulted in a lot of amazing images transmitted back to Earth, so check out this gallery for some of that.

4. WhatsApp used to not want to make money

WhatsApp once said it didn't want to sell ads, since that would make the user the product. Now, it's launching a business-focused app. Times change, but so do motivations and platform needs. It's not necessarily a bad thing.

5. LinkedIn's ad tech ambitious expand

LinkedIn is hoping to do more with its ad tech, and it now has an audience network to help advertisers buy ad inventory on a range of different mobile sites and ads, powered by LinkedIn's demographic data.

6. Turo raises $92 million and buys Daimler's P2P car business

Peer-to-peer car business Turo is getting bigger with the acquisition of Croove, the Daimler-created business which does the same thing. Daimler is investing in Turo, too, so it made little sense for them to both continue to operate competing services, Turo says.

7. India signs on for an HTT Hyperloop route

Hyperloop Transportation Technologies has signed an agreement with the government of India's Andhra Pradesh state to build a 27-mile long Hyperloop that will cut a one-hour trip down to just 6 minutes.
