THE DAILY CRUNCH
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 2017 By Darrell Etherington

It's the final day of Disrupt SF 2017, which means the epic conclusion of Startup Battlefield, and a winning final day of guest speakers and interviews. Watch that live starting at 9 AM PT on TechCrunch.com, and meanwhile enjoy all the news that's fit to tech in The Daily Crunch for September 20, 2017.

1. iOS 11 arrives

iOS 11 is here, for iPhone and iPad. It's a big change for Apple's mobile OS, with visual refinements throughout and also a bunch of new features, including AR baked right into the OS.

It's a dramatic change for the iPad, more so than for the iPhone, and Romain thinks it's a big step up for Apple's tablets. ARKit is another story – it probably needs a bit more time in the oven in terms of developers figuring out how best to use it.

2. Apple Watch the throne

Apple's smartwatch is still the best one out there, Brian finds, in his review of the Series 3 edition. LTE is a great help, he says, though at present it's hard to come up with scenarios where it might be useful short of going for a run without your phone.

3. Electric scooter maker raises $300 million

The green scooter market truly is electric: Gogoro, a company that makes EV two-wheelers, has raised $300 million to help it scale even faster. That's a lot of scooter juice.

4. Google's Pixel 2 XL leaks, along with a lot more stuff

Google suffered a large leak of its announcements set for October 4, including the brand new Pixel 2 XL, which looks very nice from an industrial design perspective. There are also potential new smart speakers and even a notebook. It's going to be a busy fall for Google's hardware team.

5. Meanwhile Amazon could be building smart glasses

Alexa eyewear? That could be a thing, according to a new Financial Times report that says Amazon is working on smart glasses that have their virtual assistant on board.

6. Sebastian Thrun has an adorable puppy

He may be 'The Godfather of Self-Driving' but he's also the puppy papa of Charlie, an 11 week-old Siberian Husky. I was very happy to share the Disrupt stage with this friendly doggo.

7. Matternet's delivery drones can now refuel and reload on their own

Autonomous delivery drone startup Matternet now has the ability to refuel and restock its drones entirely without human intervention. That's a key ingredient to a future where we get goods delivered regularly by short-haul robo-flyers.
