Google sets October 4 for new Pixel debut, Uber readies for another big cash injection and more in The Daily Crunch for September 14, 2017. Finally, a day without iPhone news.

1. Google's next Pixel smartphone arrives October 4

Google is launching the successor to its first Pixel smartphone on October 4. It looks like they're going to reveal a major update, based on their hype video – it promises improvements in virtually every aspect of smartphone tech that users care about.

The new Pixel should get some waterproofing, camera improvements, Assistant tweaks and more, as well as a bezel slimming on the XL model.

2. SoftBank and Didi near monumental Uber investment close

SoftBank, Dragoneer, Didi and others are close to finalizing a very large investment in Uber via a new joint venture, according to our sources. These might add up to a round that in total ranges between $2-$10 billion.

3. Product Hunt's first paid product aims to help you ship

Product Hunt has been all about ideas, and surfacing new ones, but now it also wants to help people ship those products, and get them in the hands of real users. It's launching a new demand generation tool called Ship, which offers a bunch of stuff for free but also adds features as part of a new paid tier for subscribers to the site who pay either $79 or $249 per month.

4. Hyperloop One enters feasibility study partnership with Colorado

Hyperloop One is moving closer to building its first U.S. route, with a new public-private partnership formed with the Colorado Department of Transportation, and with AECON, a global infrastructure construction giant.

5. Facebook puts all its crisis tools in one place

Facebook is unifying Safety Check, Community Help and Fundraisers in one convenient spot. You can now jump into this in case of emergencies for a suite of online tools designed to assist in times of need.

6. Clinch wants to personalize video ads

Personalized video ads sound like a fresh new hell for online media consumption. Can't wait, in other words!

7. It takes a lot of explosions to land a rocket

SpaceX's motto could be described as "If at first you explode, fly, fly again. And again. And again." This mesmerizing video depicts a long history of "rapid unscheduled disassemblies" before SpaceX actually managed to land their first stage booster successfully.
