iOS 5.0 in the Wild! FutureTap Developer Receives Crash Report

Posted: 27 Apr 2011 10:27 PM PDT

FutureTap developer has received their first crash report from a devioce running on iOS 5.0. This means Apple is now field-testing their next upcoming iOS 5.0 with App Store apps.

The app crashed in iOS 5.0 because of MKUserLocationBreadCrumb. This API is related to maps and location.

iOS 5.0 might be running on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad – or may be, an iPhone 5? iOS 5.0 will be unveiled officially at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2011 in June, and will be released in September along with the iPhone 5.

Jailbreak White iPhone 4 with Limera1n, iH8Sn0w Confirms

White iPhone 4. Black iPhone 4. I don’t get the idea behind all this iPhone racism. Kidding! Getting back to the topic, iPhone 4 in white flavour has just launched today and is now available for grabs.

iH8Sn0w has confirmed that you can jailbreak white iPhone 4 using Limera1n tool. It has not been patched and it should have no difficulty jailbreaking the white iPhone 4 as it runs on the same iOS as the black iPhone 4 – iOS 4.3.2.

Have you got a white iPhone 4? Feels any better or worse than the old black flavour of the iPhone 4?

Google Docs Android App, Now Available in Android Market

Posted: 27 Apr 2011 10:25 AM PDT

Google has just launched their official Google Docs Android app in the Android Market. You can now easily create, edit, upload and share your documents right from your Android phone with the Google Docs app.

Google Docs for Android app is now available for download from the Android Market. We have just downloaded the app and are playing with its features.

Some of the features in this app are:

  • Designed for Android to save you time finding your docs
  • Edits to your documents appear to collaborators in seconds
  • Make quick changes to spreadsheets
  • View your documents, PDFs, images and more.
  • Upload and convert files to the Google Docs format
  • Take a photo of printed text and convert it to a Google document
  • Share docs with your phone's contacts

So far, the only drawback I see of this app is that it doesn’t have a proper compose/editor for creating new documents, and the app should support viewing documents offline. Still a lot to explore.

Android 2.3.4 (GRJ22): Android Video-Calling via Google Talk

Posted: 27 Apr 2011 10:00 AM PDT

Google rolled out Android 2.3.4 (GRJ22) software update to some internal testers and guess what this update has… Android Google Talk video-calling!

We have been hearing rumours of Google planning to add official Google Talk video-calling in Android devices, but it wasn’t confirmed. Well, now it is – thanks to a friend who got hold of this update.

This update is just for internal testers, but it is very much possible that Google might plan to release this Android 2.3.4 software update before the Google I/O 2011 event in May, which might bring Android 2.4 (Ice-Cream).

My friend (U.S.) tried sending a video call request from his Nexus S (Google Talk) to my Gmail Chat (in Pakistan), but it gave connectivity issues and the call was never made. It seems Google has only allowed a selected number of @google.com addresses to try out this feature, till the Android 2.3.4 update is officially rolled out for everyone.

So folks, it is confirmed! Google is officially bringing video-calling to Android through Google Talk.
