How to Install Android 2.3 Keyboard

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 08:21 AM PST

Android 2.3 keyboard is one of the first bits of Gingerbread that have started to show up online. Developers are going deep into the official Android 2.3 SDK to dig out more that they could find.

I have just installed the Android 2.3 Gingerbread keyboard port file on my Nexus One and below are the instructions exactly how I did it.

Points to keep in mind:

  • You should have a ‘rooted’ phone.
  • Keyboard only works on Android 2.2 Froyo with the latest Voice Search app installed.
  • You should have a custom recovery installed i.e. ClockworkMod Recovery, Amon RA’s etc.
  • Not necessary, but create a Nandroid backup of your device first!

Important:

  • Go to /system/app folder, and make a backup of LatinIME.apk file.

How to Install Android 2.3 Keyboard

Follow the instructions below to install the Android 2.3 Gingerbread keyboard on your device.

  1. Download the Android 2.3 keyboard GingerbreadLatinIME.zip file.
  2. Connect your phone with USB and transfer the zip file to the root of your SD card.
  3. Now reboot into recovery and flash GingerbreadLatinIME.zip just like you install ROMs, themes etc.
  4. Reboot your phone. Enjoy!

HTC EVO Android 2.3 Gingerbread ROM for Developers

Posted: 07 Dec 2010 07:23 AM PST

Android 2.3 ‘Gingerbread’ was announced yesterday and developers are already busy in cooking up a ROM to port on all the latest devices.

HTC Evo is the first one to get the Android 2.3 port while other developers are busy bringing the Gingerbread experience to your phone.

This HTC Evo Android 2.3 ROM, as said by the developer on XDA, is extremely buggy and is NOT recommended for anyone other than developers who want to play around with it. Do not risk your phone installing this ROM if you use your EVO has your primary device.
