The Daily Crunch 09/09/16

America now has a CISO (I like to say it "seezoh"), iPhone 7 consumerism has begun and Musk mystified. It's The Daily Crunch for September 9, 2016. And if your car roof isn't solar, then I deeply pity you.

1. iPhone's on sale, but I hope you don't want the cool one

The new iPhone 7 went on sale at midnight Pacific Time today, and you maybe got one.

Or maybe you, like me, were force quitting and re-starting the Apple Store app for a frustrating 5 or 6 minutes until it finally let me place my order – only to discover the Jet Black version was already delayed by about 2 or 3 weeks. What is life.

2. The White House has an infosec chief

The Chief Information Security Officer position at the White House is a new one, and the first to occupy it is Gregory Touhill, previously of the Air Force and the Department of Homeland Security. I guess Dade Murphy wasn't available.

3. Falcon 9 explosion is Musk's greatest mystery

It's been eight days since a Falcon 9 rocket blew up on a Cape Canaveral launchpad during launch preparation exercises, but SpaceX seems no closer to finding out why. Elon Musk took to Twitter late last night to give an update on progress, and put out an open call for any video of the event to help further along the investigations. He also noted they haven't yet ruled out the possibility that some kind of external object struck the rocket. Start your conspiracy engines!

4. The Raspberry Pi is now available in an official starter kit

Raspberry Pi, the tiny computer that's super affordable, now comes in a starter kit package with a mouse, keyboard, cables and a case, giving home computing Deists all they need to get up and running. It's still barebones and great for getting kids curious about electronics, make no mistake, but now you can dress up those bones.

5. The Karma Revero is real – but we still have no idea when they'll ship

Karma's Revero, the first vehicle the company is making since it stopped being Fisker and was acquired by Chinese autoparts maker Wanxiang Group. The car exists, as the unveil event proves, but it's got a solar roof that's more show than substance, and we still have no idea when it'll ship. And it starts at $130K.

6. Your Mario Kart dreams are about to come true

Tony Fadell's Actev, which is a company making electric go-karts for kids, is set to start shipping its $1k product soon. The junior version is just the prelude to one for grown-up children, though, so it's okay to start getting excited.

7. Chipotle from above

Miracle burritos from on high. Yes.
