Get Old Facebook Photo Viewer in Firefox, Chrome

Posted: 20 Feb 2011 12:04 PM PST

I just wrote on how to get the old Facebook photo viewer back, but that was not a permanent solution to fix it. You would have to do it every time you open a new photo album.

Like I mentioned, it wouldn’t take long for a developer to come out with an add-on or script for Greasemonkey that fixes this – permanently for now. A little Googling helped me find the perfect, permanent solution.

Get Old Facebook Photo Viewer in Firefox, Chrome

You can get the old photo viewer back with this userscript which displays the ‘Theatre’ view in Facebook photos.

How to Install Userscripts

The following articles may help you if you need to know how to run userscripts in your browser.

Posted: 20 Feb 2011 11:37 AM PST

If you thought BlackBerry will be done with touch handsets after the failure of BlackBerry Torch 9800, well, it doesn’t seem like that. A video was posted on YouTube of an unannounced BlackBerry device, rumoured to be the BlackBerry Storm 3 – but was soon pulled off.

This device has been codenamed Monaco and is Verizon branded with a very early OS build running on it. You can clearly see the lag in the menus.

BlackBerry Storm 3 Specifications

The expected specifications of the Storm 3 will be as follows:

  • Processor – Qualcomm 1.2GHz processor
  • Display – 3.7″ 800×480 resolution
  • Radio – Dual band CDMA, EV-DO Rev A, Quad band EDGE/Single band UMTS
  • Camera – 5 MegaPixel + Flash with 720p video recording
  • Memory – 4GB storage, expandable via MicroSD
  • Connectivity – WiFi and GPS + Bluetooth 2.1
  • Sensors – Magnetometer, Accelerometer, Proximity
  • Software – Enhanced BlackBerry SW v6.1

And it is also rumoured that the new BlackBerry Storm 3 will come with NFC. More details about this device is expected at BlackBerry World in May.

How to Disable New Photo Viewer in Facebook

Posted: 20 Feb 2011 11:08 AM PST

Facebook recently rolled out the new photo viewer “Theater Mode” for all the users, and like ever design change this has been annoying most of the users while some others like it.

The new photo viewer in my view is really bad and the previous one was a lot better, with a cleaner look. This new ‘theater’ look is no better.

How to Disable New Photo ‘Theater’ Viewer in Facebook

You can follow the following solution to disable the new Facebook photo viewer.

When you open a photo in the theater mode, check the URL of the photo and from end of the URL and remove “&theater“. This will display the entire album back in the old viewer.

I know this is not a permanent solution, and you will have to repeat that step every time you open a new photo. I’ll update as soon as I find a better solution i.e. a Greasemonkey script.

UPDATE: Here’s a permanent solution to get the old photo viewer back in Facebook!
